I have some of the most beautiful males and I wanted to share them with you all. I wish I could breed every single one of them but I just dont have the space.

I need to find homes for them though I have to many and the thought of these gorgeous guys going for feeders is killing me :( So if anyone is interested drop me a PM.

Nice fishy, did you count how many do you have? Hopefully you'll sell them instead of giving away as feeders.

I have no idea on shipping to Canada. I know the fish dont require one in the USA but that is the extent of my knowledge.

I think you do have to have a permit to ship to Canada, I know Adrian at swampriveraquatics has one. He can ship anywhere in the world.

I dont guess I will be shipping to Canada then   Trying to get the snail permits was a long process that took 2 weeks and I just dont have the time to do that anymore. It isnt that the permits themselves where hard it was the fact that here in the back of beyond no one knew what I was talking about. The actual snail permits where simple.

But of course then 2 months later they decided you no longer need permits to ship brigs

I have been told that the best way to ship brigs from my location in TN to Canada is without water. Since they are air breathers as well as water they can live up to 2 weeks out of water as long as they dont dry out. It can take as long as 7 days to get there so the water would be toxic by that time apparently. As for cost it would be on the high side even with priority mail you are looking at nearly $20.00 and if you want overnight upward of $40 and that varies by weight.

I havnt shipped any to canada but I did price to ship some up there once.

Breathing bags are what I use. They are fairly new to the hobby and some are reluctant to try them but I swear by them. They allow oxygen to go into the bag while carbon monoxide is expelled. I have had fish live as long as 7 days when they get lost in the mail. Some of my snails have taken 5 days and where still healthy on the other end.

I use the priority mail boxes that you can get free from the PO and add 1/2 inch insulation like is used in houses that I cut to fit. then I put newsprint in (can use packing peanuts as well) and pack it in there so the bags dont touch each other if they do it affects the oxygen/carbon monoxide breathing. then on the very top I wrap the heat pack in a single layer of newspaper and tape it to the lid. That way the heat pack dosnt get to close to the bags possibly causing overheating or melting.

Breather bags are reusable and they can heal small leaks on their own. Breathing bags work best with as little water as possible so that the fish are closer to the edges. You dont want any oxygen pockets in there either since the fish get sloshed more and can get caught in wrinkles. I actually tape the tips down on the bottom so that when the bag shifts there is no little spot to get caught in. Small fish can get trapped there and die.

With snails I put less than 1/4 cup of water in with a single snail then I take a rubber band and close that section then I take another snail more water and another rubber band. I can get 4 snails in a snail sausage in the medium bag and 2 in a small bag. I need to take pictures of my snausages to show lol

I have only lost 1 snail out of approx. 350 snails shipped this year. It was one I was giving away due to some minor shell damage but apparently it had more than I knew about Everyone else has came out of the bag crawling with no shipping trauma that is seen when they are shipped without water.

I hope that is the answer you where looking for alex

ETA: Here are my snausages   I didnt put the snails in since I have touched snails enough today  but that is exactly what it looks like.

Thanks for these tips OnlyApplesNEndlers, very helpful description about how to ship live stock. How did you come up with this snausages idea? You was doing some research on this or it's your own idea?

The snausage idea was mine never read or seen it used before. I just happened to think that instead of just shipping a bag per snail and using a ton of bags I could cut back on how many I needed if I could put more than a single snail per bag. I knew that putting them all in one bag would cause some to be damaged since their openings are very fragile because they are thin. Even if the rest of the shell is in great shape the opening is brand new and always growing.

So I tried it and it worked better than I thought it would. It does take me a lot longer to package doing it this way but I dont mind it since it means healthy undamaged snails on the other end of the trip.
